Nutrition: There is a very good chance that you have heard the phrase ‘you are what you eat’.  At the very same time, you also probably know that your diet is going to have a direct impact on your health.  In fact, you have probably heard all this time and time again.  But have you ever stopped and wondered exactly how it is that the foods you eat are able to improve your health?  How is it that a certain food is able to prevent a certain life-threatening illness, but another food is able to increase your chances of that same illness occurring?

Here are some of the main things that you should know about preventing any type of medical condition when it comes to nutrition and the foods that you eat.

Eating Healthy Will Help to Prevent Obesity

The number one reason that is going to boost your potential to get a disease is going to be obesity.  Obesity is not only going to be one of the major risk factors when it comes to many different health conditions (which is going to include osteoporosis, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and many more), but it is going to make you feel terrible at the very same time.

When you eat foods that are loaded with excessive amounts of sugars, calories, and fats, you are going to essentially add extra weight onto your body, weaken your bones, and make all of your internal organs work much harder than they should be working.  This alone is going to put you at a much higher risk for many different types of health problems.  While you may not necessarily experience them in the next couple of days or weeks, in the long run, you are essentially going o be setting yourself up for massive failure.

There are Certain Nutrients That Will Affect Certain Body Parts

The foods you eat are what are going to give your body the nutrients that it needs to stay healthy and maintain itself.  For example, if you don’t get enough calcium on a regular basis, there is a good chance that your bones will start to become unhealthy, weak, and brittle.  This is going to be something that will make you much more susceptible to osteoporosis.  What this means, is that if you have a diet that is higher in calcium, you are more than likely going to prevent osteoporosis from occurring in your body.

This very same philosophy is going to be true when it comes to saturated fats and cardiovascular disease.  When you eat too much saturated fat, it is more than likely going to lead you to have much higher blood pressure and cholesterol level.  This is not going to be good for you, as these are two very major risk factors for several different types of cardiovascular disease.

When You Eat Healthy Foods, You Feel Better

When you have a diet that is full of the healthy foods you should be eating, you are not only going to help make sure that your body is operating at its optimal efficiency, but you are also going to boost your mood.  What makes this so special, is that when you do feel better, you are going to be more likely to increase the amount of physical activity that you do.  Essentially, when you eat the right types of foods, it can help you to become happier.  Once you are happier, studies have shown that it will then lead you to have more bouts of the healthy exercise that your body needs.

Since getting exercise on a regular basis is going to be one of the best ways that you can help prevent many different types of diseases and other medical conditions, it only makes sense that you would want to eat as healthy as you can.

Healthy Foods Will Boost Your ‘Good’ Cholesterol

When you are able to maintain a diet that is packed full of the healthy foods you were meant to eat on a regular basis, you are essentially going to boost the amount of ‘good’ cholesterol (which is referred to as your HDL, or high-density lipoprotein) that you have, effectively lowering the number of unhealthy triglycerides that you have in your system.

This is a very big thing, as it is going to directly impact your risk of having a stroke, heart disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and high blood pressure.  It will help to lower your risk for these conditions by improving how smoothly your blood is going to flow through your body.  Essentially, the more good cholesterol that you have in your body, the better your body will be able to prevent any serious diseases from occurring.

When it comes to your nutrition, the more educated you can be, the healthier you will be.  That is why you should always try your best to incorporate a healthy diet that will help to reduce your risk for any kind of serious disease.  What do you have to lose?
